Our History

Having started in a small back office in a small town 50km outside of Johannesburg in 1997, Pedro M G Camacho, has endouvered to make Blue Sky Communications a company that has stood the test of time and has continuously evolved to be at the fore front of technological developments within the Telecommunications industry.

Blue Sky, started its connectivity business by selling Inmarsat M and Mini M terminals for Comsat Communications in 1997.  In 1998, Blue Sky registered with Inmarsat as an ISP with code 8086. During the late 90's it co-operated with several LESO's, namely France Telecom, Station 12, Glocall, Station 711, SingTel, Stratos and Telenor.

In 1998, Blue Sky signed with Iridium Africa as a service provider and was instrumental in providing Y2K contingencies solutions to all the major banks in South Africa during this period. After the collapse of Iridium, Blue Sky turned the situation around and promoted the Inmarsat Mini-M. The data requirements started to grow in the early 2002, and the introduction of VSAT was decided and Blue Sky became the first Network Broadband Internet service provider for Intelsat Global in Africa, based on the Gilat Skyedge and 360E platform. We have since introduced iDirect, Newtec and Hughes platforms. Blue Sky has recently added several new products to its portfolio and in so doing has entrenched itself in the communications market for the forseable future. In 2009 it was awarded its operator license for South Africa. The ECNS and IECNS licenses allow Blue Sky to operate independently and to setup its own infrastructure. This is now a reality with the recent Fibre infrastructure rollout.

In 2013 Blue Sky opened up its doors in Cairo, Egypt, which is now operate independently by our local partner and services our customers in the Middle East and North Africa region. In 2016 our new offices opened Limassol, Cyprus and Lisbon, Portugal, which will service the Maritime and Aviation industry in these zones.
